QPR 1 – 3 Blackburn – Match Report Sam Gallagher Queens Park

Sam Gallagher suffered his first defeat as QPR manager when Blackburn Rovers stunned them 3-1. Sam Gallagher gave Rovers a commanding first-half lead before Tim Iroegbunam leveled things up for Rangers.

Blackburn United battled back from an injury-plagued start to secure their third consecutive win and extend their unbeaten league streak to six matches. The victory propelled Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men into fourth place on the log.

Sam Gallagher scored a brace

Gareth Ainsworth’s QPR were defeated by Blackburn for the third time in four games, with Sam Gallagher scoring a brace as Rovers extended their unbeaten league streak to six matches. The former Plymouth Argyle youth player struck home an emphatic opener before giving Rovers another advantage after the break with another stunning goal.

Ainsworth’s side have won three consecutive away Championship matches to move eight points clear of relegation, though they remain without a victory as QPR manager. He admits losing Ilias Chair to injury was “a big blow”, yet remains upbeat about their performance against an in-form Rovers side, reports Jon Dahl Tomasson for LancsLive.

Blackburn are currently in fourth place in the table and have won three of their last five matches to move out of relegation danger. Plus, they could potentially beat Premier League Newcastle at St James’ Park next Saturday to move back into the top half of the table.

Tim Iroegbunam scored his first goal for the club

Queens Park Rangers suffered their first defeat under new manager Gareth Ainsworth as Blackburn Rovers came out on top 3-1. Goals from Sam Gallagher and Sammie Szmodics gave the visitors the victory that lifted them up to fourth in the table and extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches.

Eight minutes after going behind, the hosts leveled the score with Tim Iroegbunam’s powerful strike from outside the box. Osman Kakay’s cross fell kindly for Iroegbunam to convert from 12 yards out.

At 14 minutes, Blackburn took the lead with Gallagher nodding home Tyrhys Dolan’s low cross. That was an important early goal for Rovers who have won their last four matches across all competitions and will have been delighted to see Ainsworth’s side slip to 18th in the Championship.

Sammie Szmodics scored a late goal

Gareth Ainsworth’s QPR were defeated in their first competitive match as manager by Blackburn Rovers, as Sam Gallagher scored twice and Sammie Szmodics struck for the winner. Unfortunately for Ainsworth it was his first League defeat as Super Hoops manager.

After a first half in which both sides struggled to break the deadlock, Rovers took control with their second goal. Joe Rankin-Costello started the move with an excellent crossfield pass and Tyrhys Dolan’s shot was deflected for Sam Gallagher to slot home.

Blackburn put on an impressive show, displaying maturity that is often lacking among young teams when travelling. Their defence was ruthless and midfielders Buckley and Travis excelled too.

Ilias Chair was sent off

Queens Park Rangers suffered their first defeat to Blackburn in 16 years on Wednesday afternoon at West London Stadium. Goals from Nahki Wells, Ebere Eze, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Jordan Hugill sealed a 4-2 win for QPR which moved them within one point of the play-off places with another win.

Mark Warburton expressed his pleasure with his team’s performance despite the defeat, noting that a clean sheet was another positive for the former Hull City and Blackpool manager.

But the hosts were left to regret a number of missed chances in the opening half. Albert Adomah’s strike was blocked by Thomas Kaminski, while Chair was denied by the goalkeeper in the 68th minute after Chris Willock’s cross fell to him.

Rovers finally broke the deadlock in the 77th minute when Reda Khadra curled in a free-kick from an acute angle and Marshall made a save, but not enough to prevent victory. This propelled Rovers above QPR into third place in the Championship, one point away from automatic promotion places.
