Michael Douglas is a Hollywood legend who first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Ant-Man and has since been an integral part of every MCU movie since. Thus, it seems only natural for him to return for Ant-Man and the Wasp 2, his beloved sequel.
At the red carpet premiere of Quantumania, Douglas was asked if he’d return for Ant-Man 4 under any condition and his responses are truly shocking.
He Wants Hank Pym to Die
Michael Douglas, who played Hank Pym in all three Ant-Man films, has a direct response to the potential return of Hank Pym for an Ant-Man 4 movie. If it happens, Michael wants a very specific story for his character.
On the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Douglas said he felt like he was coming home, which made it easier to return to his character. Working with director Peyton Reed again as well as having co-stars Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer around him on set also played a part.
It appears likely that Pym will pass away in the upcoming film, potentially having huge repercussions for the Marvel Universe going forward. In comics, Scott Lang – Ant-Man’s name – died in a subatomic quantum realm, so it would make sense for Pym to pass away as well. This could start a downward spiral which ultimately ends with Kang taking control of the Avengers.
He Wants Kang to Kill Pym
Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) was granted the power of ant size and shrinking abilities by his mentor Hank Pym. As such, he can enter the subatomic world and protect humans and objects in a similar fashion to his Marvel Comics counterpart.
In the sequel, Scott Lang and Cassie (Kathryn Newton) will venture into the Quantum Realm to retrieve Cassie’s lost time and explore with Pym and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer). Along the way they’ll face off against Kang the Conqueror played by Jonathan Majors as an evil new villain.
Michael Douglas was asked if he would return for another Ant-Man 4 film at the red carpet premiere and gave an uncharacteristically Harrison Ford response.
Douglas revealed during his interview that he’d like Kang to kill Hank Pym. This makes sense, since Pym and Kang have a longstanding friendship. Additionally, it would be emotionally devastating for Hank Pym if he were to pass away in the upcoming film.

He Wants Pym’s Story to Be About Hope Van Dyne
Last year, Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp premiered in theaters, introducing us to Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), daughter of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. It was revealed that Pym and Janet’s daughter had been transported into Quantum Realm – an area within Marvel Universe where time works differently.
Douglas has an exciting idea for an Ant-Man prequel, one that would showcase Hank Pym in his early days. Similar to Black Widow, Marvel often goes back in time for some of their movies; however, this technique has not been utilized as much as it could be.
In this case, it’s about Pym and Janet as a married couple. Additionally, Pym was first able to shrink himself down, an accomplishment which allowed him to survive in the Quantum Realm. Afterwards, he attempted to rescue Janet who had become lost in space.
He Wants Pym to Die
Michael Douglas, who played Hank Pym in Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Endgame, recently stated that if asked to reprise his character for an Ant-Man 4 movie, he wants it dead. This statement was made during a press junket for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Hank Pym is a former inventor who discovered the Pym Particles, which enable Ant-Man to shrink down to the size of an ant and retain his strength. He shared this development with Janet van Dyne, his new girlfriend whom he would later join as his crime-fighting partner.
Hank Pym recruited Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) as his new protege and equipped him with a suit that can both increase his strength and shrink him down to the size of an ant. After reforming from crime life, Lang soon becomes a superhero alongside Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly). They join Marvel Cinematic Universe as founding members of the Avengers.
